Service 03

Bookkeeping services

Records that are current, reconciled and easy to read, so you can see how the business is doing and file with confidence.

What this service covers

Bookkeeping is the steady work of recording what happens in the business: money in, money out and what is owed on either side. Done regularly, it makes tax filing simpler and gives you numbers you can rely on.

AD Accounting works in QuickBooks and supports businesses that need ongoing upkeep as well as those that need to repair or catch up their records. Anu Shah is also a Certified Bookkeeper (CB).

Who it is for

  • Small business owners who would rather not do their own books
  • Businesses that fell behind and need catch-up bookkeeping
  • Owners switching to QuickBooks or tidying an existing QuickBooks file
  • Businesses that need clean records before a tax return, loan application or review

Common situations

Uncategorized transactions
Bank and card feeds that are not categorized make reports unreliable. We review and assign transactions consistently.
Accounts that do not reconcile
Bank, credit card and loan balances should agree with your books. We reconcile them and trace differences.
Months of backlog
Catch-up work brings earlier periods into order so the current period can be kept up to date.
Books that need cleanup
Duplicate entries, misplaced transactions and inconsistent accounts can be reviewed and corrected.

How it generally works

  1. Assess the starting point

We look at your current records and software to understand what is current, what is behind and what needs correcting.

  2. Set up consistent categories

A clear chart of accounts keeps reports meaningful from one period to the next.

  3. Record and reconcile

Transactions are categorized and accounts reconciled on an agreed schedule.

  4. Report

Financial reports such as profit and loss and balance sheet are available to support your decisions and your tax preparation.

Bookkeeping and tax preparation work together

A business tax return is only as reliable as the records behind it. When bookkeeping and tax preparation are handled together, questions about a transaction can be settled while the details are still fresh rather than at filing time.

What bookkeeping is not

Bookkeeping records and organizes transactions. It is separate from an audit, a review or a compilation of financial statements. If you need one of those for a lender or regulator, tell us so we can discuss what applies.

Common questions

Which software do you use?

AD Accounting works in QuickBooks. If you use something else, contact us to discuss it.

Can you fix books that are already a mess?

Cleanup and catch-up bookkeeping are part of the service. The effort depends on the condition of the records, which we review first.

Do I need bookkeeping if I only file once a year?

Records are needed whether or not you file once a year. Keeping them current through the year usually makes filing smoother.
